Modern Baby Cribs – Styles and Buying Tips
The most important piece of furniture that would be parents need to invest money in before the arrival of their child is a good quality crib in which they can sleep comfortably and safely. As they like many other parents will find that there are many different makes and models to select from and although the traditional style is wonderful many new young parents are opting for more modern baby cribs instead.
What you need to remember when making such an important purchase is that this is a place where they will be sleeping until they reach the age of 2 or 3 years. So of course you want to spend quite a bit of time on making the right selection for your new addition. In this article we are going to be taking a look at some of the features that you should make sure that the crib you purchase comes with. But first let us take a brief look at the styles of modern baby cribs one can get.
Style 1 – Standard – These are what most parents tend to buy as they are often the least expensive. They generally come with one side of the crib that drops so getting the baby in and out without putting too much pressure on the back a lot easier. However, there are a few styles where both sides of the cribs can be raised and lowered.
Style 2 – Convertible – This particular type of modern crib then allows the parents to convert it into a child’s bed as they grow older. Yes these do cost more than conventional cribs but then as would be parents you will not be faced with having to spend more money on buying a new bed for your child in the future.
Style 3 – Canopy – If you are looking for a crib that helps to give your new additions nursery a more elegant look this type is worth considering. Again this do come at a price but the four posts with the fabric canopy over the top look truly spectacular.
Style 4 – Round – In recent years this style of modern baby crib has become increasingly popular especially with very young couples. They not only look unique and create a focal point within a room they can help to make more of limited space. As with the standard modern baby cribs available these will come with just one side that you can raise and lower.
So what should you be looking for when it comes to purchasing any cribs for a baby’s nursery?
1. The gaps between the slats in the cribs should not be more than 2 3/8 inches apart. This will ensure that your child’s head cannot slip through them and then become stuck.
2. If the modern baby cribs you have purchased come with drop sides then make sure that when lowered they remain at least 9 inches above where the mattress support is located. Plus also that when raised they remain at least 26 inches above this.
3. Finally you must make sure that the mattress you purchase with your modern baby cribs fits snugly inside the frame. You can tell if it fits correctly by seeing if you can push more than 2 fingers between it and the side of the crib.
